Europe is emerging as the fastest growing destination for MBA applicants

Posted: Feb 18, 2011

According to the European Geographic Trends Report, released by GMAC in February, Europe is emerging as the fastest growing destination for MBA applicants. The ever increasing reputation and global ranking of European business schools is fuelling a massive increase in the number of GMAT scores being sent to European business schools. This is supported by a Financial Times report highlighting the fact that all of the top 100 business schools use the GMAT in their MBA application processes. Taking the trend of where MBA applicants are sending their GMAT scores as an indicator, Europe is emerging as the fastest growing destination.

Taking statistics for the academic testing year ending June 2010, European business schools received more than 85,000 GMAT scores. This is almost a 90% increase on the 2006 figures during a period where the total number of scores sent by test takers increased by 30%.

The USA is still by far the king of MBA destinations, receiving in excess of 600,000 score reports from GMAT takers.

The most popular European destinations for GMAT scores are Britain, France, The Netherlands, and Spain, combining to receive approx. 80% in total.

Only 36% of all European business school applications were submitted by European citizens; China and India are increasingly dominating the non-European applicant pool. Europe is increasingly becoming an attractive location for a very global mix of talent, the result of which is a growth in experience and exposure to diversity for the graduates from Europe’s business schools.
